Das Gewicht betr\u00e4gt 9 g. Vom Aussehen her kann man ihn kaum vom Gartenbauml\u00e4ufer unterscheiden, aber seine Hinterzehenkralle ist l\u00e4nger als bei diesem. Sein spitzer Schnabel ist nach unten gebogen und wird 12 bis 14 mm lang. Zum Abst\u00fctzen und Steuern benutzt er die bis zu 5 cm langen Schwanzfedern.<\/p>\n<p>Die K\u00f6rperunterseite ist wei\u00df, seine Oberseite rindenfarbig und sein \u00dcberaugenstreif wei\u00df gef\u00e4rbt. M\u00e4nnchen und Weibchen haben die gleiche F\u00e4rbung. Sein Ruf klingt in etwa wie &#8222;siih&#8220; oder &#8222;tih&#8220;. Die kurze Gesangsstrophe ist eine abfallende, zum Ende wieder ansteigende Reihe von leisen Pfeift\u00f6nen und erinnert an die Laut\u00e4u\u00dferungen von Blaumeise und Fitis. Waldbauml\u00e4ufer k\u00f6nnen bis zu sieben Jahre alt werden.<\/p>\n<h2>Lebensraum und Verbreitung<\/h2>\n<p>Der Waldbauml\u00e4ufer bewohnt ganzj\u00e4hrig Nadel- und Mischw\u00e4lder in Mittel- und Osteuropa.<\/p>\n<h2>Ern\u00e4hrung<\/h2>\n<p>Der Waldbauml\u00e4ufer frisst haupts\u00e4chlich Insekten und Spinnen. Zur Nahrungssuche klettert er ruckartig und spiralf\u00f6rmig an St\u00e4mmen und dicken \u00c4sten hoch und stochert mit seinem Schnabel in Ritzen in und hinter der Rinde.<\/p>\n<h2>Fortpflanzung<\/h2>\n<p>Die Geschlechtsreife tritt nach einem Jahr ein. Die Brutzeit erstreckt sich von M\u00e4rz bis Juli. Das Nest wird aus Reisern, Moos, Tierhaaren und Federn in Baumspalten und hinter loser Rinde gebaut.<\/p>\n<p>Das Weibchen legt f\u00fcnf bis acht Eier und w\u00e4rmt sie dann zwei Wochen, bis die Jungv\u00f6gel schl\u00fcpfen.
